The PDPC has concluded its public consultation on Proposed Advisory Guidelines on the PDPA for NRIC Numbers, and has issued an updated Advisory Guidelines on the PDPA for NRIC and other National Identification Numbers. The advisory guidelines aim to enhance consumer protection against indiscriminate and unjustified collection, use and disclosure of individuals' NRIC numbers and retention of physical NRICs. The same treatment extends to Birth Certificate numbers, Foreign Identity Numbers and Work Permit numbers. Access the guidelines here.

The PDPC has also issued an accompanying Technical Guide to the NRIC Advisory Guidelines that provides organisations with tips for the replacement of such identifiers in their websites and other public-facing computer systems. Access the guide here.
