Advisory on Impersonation of PDPC Officers

23 Jan 2025

The PDPC would like to alert the public about a variant of impersonation scams involving individuals pretending to be PDPC officers. These callers attempted to deceive members of the public by providing a fake employee ID and case number, then claimed that their numbers were used in illegal activities in Malaysia. The callers would then try to transfer the victim to another department or request that they travel to Malaysia to resolve the matter.

Voice phishing is a typical scammer’s tactic to trick unsuspecting individuals to reveal personal or confidential information over the phone.

The PDPC takes such incidents seriously, as they undermine the public’s trust in our public institutions. Organisations and members of the public should be careful with revealing personal and confidential information over the phone to unknown parties. Organisations and members of the public are also advised not to make monetary transfers or payment for alleged services rendered. They can also contact PDPC at 6377 3131 to verify the identity of an officer who is claiming to be from the PDPC.

If you have any information relating to such crimes or if you are in doubt, please call the Police Hotline at 1800-255-0000, or submit it online at www.police.gov.sg/i-witness. All information will be kept strictly confidential. If you require urgent Police assistance, please dial ‘999’.
